Lead qualification questions

Qualify Instagram leads with a helpful conversation.

Instagram lead qualification means learning whether your offer fits a person’s needs and whether they want to explore it. Ask about their goal, current situation, scope and timing, then explain the relevant offer and price. Record what is confirmed and what still needs clarification.

Define fit before you start asking questions

Instagram lead qualification gives both sides a clearer decision. The person learns what your service can provide, and you learn whether you can deliver the work they need. Write a short qualification definition for each offer before using a script.

A hypothetical content consultant might define fit as a service business seeking a monthly planning process, with someone available to review drafts and a budget that matches the published package. A local photographer may care more about location, event date and the type of session. Your definition should reflect delivery reality.

Separate essential requirements from preferences. An essential requirement might be operating within your service area. A preferred detail might be having existing brand photos. This helps you recommend an appropriate next step with confidence.

Ask one question at a time

What to learnExample questionHow it helps
GoalWhat would you most like this project to accomplish?Connects the conversation to an outcome
Current situationHow are you handling this today?Shows where support may help
ScopeWhich part would you like us to handle?Clarifies the deliverables
TimingWhen would you like to begin?Checks availability and readiness
Commercial fitThis package is [price] for [scope]. Does that fit what you had in mind?Makes the decision concrete
Next stepWould you like the outline or a conversation about the details?Lets the person choose how to proceed

Use only the questions that matter for this enquiry. If they already supplied the timing, acknowledge it and move on. If they ask a direct question, answer it before continuing your discovery.

Turn their answers into a relevant recommendation

Consider this illustrative conversation for a content planning service. A business owner says they want a more organized month of content. You ask what they currently publish and learn that they have plenty of photos but need help choosing topics. You then clarify whether they want strategy, writing or publishing support.

Once the scope is clear, summarize it: “You have the photos and want a monthly topic plan with captions your team can review. Our planning package covers [deliverables] at [price]. Your team would handle [remaining responsibility]. Does that match what you need?”

This summary gives the person a chance to correct your understanding. If another service fits better, explain the option plainly. A useful qualification process can lead to a purchase, a referral, a later conversation or a clear conclusion that the offer is not a match.

Use a checklist with evidence, not assumptions

  • Need: the person described a goal your offer addresses.
  • Scope: you have explained the included work and relevant boundaries.
  • Timing: their desired start and your availability are compatible.
  • Price: they have the actual price and material billing details.
  • Decision: they want a defined next step.

Use the editable Instagram lead tracker CSV to record enquiry context and next actions in your spreadsheet. Mark each checklist item confirmed, open or not applicable. A follower count, polished profile or enthusiastic reaction does not establish these facts. Record what the person actually said, and keep your interpretation separate.

For example, “Asked for the monthly plan; wants to start in November” is useful evidence. “Definitely ready to buy” is an inference until the person confirms a purchase. This distinction makes handoffs and pipeline reviews more accurate.

Connect qualification to your CRM and content

Use contact notes and tags to capture the need, source and relevant offer. Move the opportunity to the next stage when your definition is satisfied. For questions that remain open, create a concrete next action such as confirming the service area or sending the scope document.

Repeated questions also make useful content topics. If several prospects ask who supplies the photos, explain that responsibility in a post and on the offer page. If the same scope question delays decisions, improve the package description.

Your questions, answered

What counts as a qualified Instagram lead?

A person whose confirmed needs fit your offer and who wants to explore a defined next step. Add scope, location, timing or commercial requirements that matter to your business.

Should I ask about budget?

Explain the real price and scope when they are relevant, then ask whether that matches the person’s plans. Make the conversation clear and respectful.

Do I need a scoring model?

A small business can start with a short checklist of confirmed and open items. Add scoring only if it helps your team make more consistent decisions.

Turn enquiry details into a clear next step.

Keep the person’s goal, offer fit and agreed action together in your Instagram CRM.
