Track Instagram followers and understand your growth

See who follows your Instagram account, read changes over time, and understand which campaigns receive credit for new followers. This tutorial walks through the Follower Tracker dashboard, its initial scan, reporting periods, charts, refresh controls and common fixes. We use the actual GramFather interface with fictional names and counts. The examples demonstrate the controls; they are not promised results.

Open Followers for the account you want to track

In the sidebar, expand Insights and click Followers. Check the Instagram handle in the account switcher. Each account has separate tracking, lists and settings, and the feature is available on Starter, Growth and Pro. To track another account, select it at the top and open Followers for that account. Your reporting days use the time zone in Automation and safety, Active hours.

Connect the extension before starting a scan

The extension reads the follower list through Chrome. Have the extension installed, signed in and connected, with Instagram open and signed in to the matching account. Keep automation on and the worker available. Every follower scan is read-only: it does not post, follow, like or message anyone. Scans pause when the account is paused because Instagram pushed back.

Start the initial follower scan

The first time you open Followers, the page normally queues the initial scan automatically. If you see Run initial scan, click it. The welcome card shows the account size and an approximate duration. Our fictional account has twelve hundred and forty followers and an estimate of about seventeen minutes. Large lists take longer because the extension reads at a measured pace.

Read the queued-scan message

The status first says Initial scan queued and Waiting for the extension to start. That means reading has not begun. In this example, the warning says the extension is not connected in this browser. Follow Connect the extension, then check sign-in and the Instagram handle. Once the browser can work, it usually picks up the scan within about two minutes.

Follow progress and resume after closing Chrome

Once running, the progress line shows how many people have been scanned against the approximate total, the start time and estimated time remaining. Here, five hundred of about twelve hundred and forty have been read. Keep Chrome open. If you close it, the scan can pick up where it left off when Chrome is available again. The Scans tutorial explains progress, stopping and recovery in detail.

Understand the initial baseline

After the initial scan completes, the tracker dashboard appears. All followers includes people who already followed you when tracking started. To see those records, choose Oldest first in Sort followers. They are marked Before tracking. History starts at that initial baseline; those existing followers are not counted as new followers. From later checks, newly identified people and unfollowers appear in their own tabs.

Choose the reporting period

Use Date range to choose seven days, thirty days, ninety days or All time. Thirty days is the default each visit; the choice is not saved. All time covers history since the initial scan, up to two years. The five headline numbers, charts and attribution follow the period. The lists below retain changes since tracking began, so a shorter headline period is not a filter for all list history.

Check scan age, next check and reporting time zone

Beside the date range, read Last scan, the next scheduled check and the reporting time zone. These tell you when the information was read and when an automatic check is due. With daily tracking enabled, the extension checks once a day at a randomized time inside your active hours. Browser availability still matters: a scheduled time requires the connected extension to do the reading.

Read Followers and New followers

Followers is the latest reported count, with an as-of age beneath it. New followers is the number of people scans identified as starting to follow within the selected range. Our fictional thirty-day example shows twelve hundred and forty current followers and one hundred and fifty identified new followers. The current count and the list of identified people come from related but distinct observations.

Interpret estimated and named unfollowers

Unfollowers shows the losses for the period. An approximately symbol means some losses are inferred from changes in follower counts. The explanation says how many have names and that the remainder are confirmed at the next full scan. An all-named label means the losses have named records. A full rescan needs sufficient list coverage before naming people as unfollowers; incomplete coverage keeps those names back.

Understand Net growth and Churn rate

Net growth is the change between recorded follower counts across the range. Churn rate divides unfollowers by the follower count at the start. These figures help you review direction and retention together. Do not assume the net-count figure must equal newly identified names minus losses in every view: list-detection timing and the range’s count observations can differ. A dash means that the required observations are not yet available.

Open New followers and Unfollowers

Click New followers to see dated groups of identified people, their attribution and when they were spotted. Followed again identifies a returning follower. Click Unfollowers to see named losses, with a window between observations rather than an exact unfollow time. The lists tutorial covers searching, sorting, CRM actions, exports and both follow-back lists. No Instagram message is sent by simply opening these tabs.

Read Daily net growth and Follower count

Scroll below the follower lists to Daily net growth and Follower count. Daily net growth compares each recorded count with the previous observation, showing increases and decreases. Days without a count remain blank. Follower count shows the recorded total for each day, with the current number in the subtitle. Both charts follow the selected date range.

Inspect an exact day with pointer or keyboard

Point at a day to inspect its value. You can also click the chart and use the arrow keys. In our seven-day example, the selected day shows a net change of four since the previous count. This lets you read specific observations instead of estimating from the height of a bar. Use the date shown in the tooltip to keep your comparison precise.

Switch both charts to numerical tables

Click Table in a chart card to show the same information as rows. The net-growth table includes day, net change and follower count. The count table contains day and followers. Rows run newest first. A dash on the first observation can mean there is no previous count to compare. Click Chart to return to the graph. These display choices are not saved; cards start in Chart mode.

Read which campaigns receive follower credit

What brought them in lists up to five sources credited with new followers in the selected period. Read the campaign or post name, feature type and credited count. The possible types are Follow and Engage, Auto-DM Outreach, Comment AI and Follow-for-follow. Campaign attribution uses the most recent qualifying interaction within fourteen days before the scan identified the follow. A recorded Engagement Buddies mutual follow can receive Follow-for-follow credit.

Use attribution as evidence for your next review

Attribution records the qualifying touch; it does not prove why a person chose to follow. Compare the credited sources with conversations, content and retention over time. If the section says No campaign-driven follows yet, its Start a Follow and Engage campaign link opens that setup workflow. Your existing followers and organic activity can still be useful even when this section has no campaign credit.

Choose between Refresh and Refresh followers

There are two different refresh controls. The small Refresh beside Date range reloads stored numbers and lists without starting a scan. Refresh followers at the top starts a full scan of the follower list and is disabled while one is running. Opening Followers also starts a full refresh when no follower scan has started within the last hour. The page updates every ten seconds while scanning and every thirty seconds otherwise.

Find the three manual scan options

After the initial scan, open Scan now. Daily check looks for new followers; Full rescan identifies unfollowers with sufficient coverage; Scan who I follow supports the two follow-back lists. The menu labels explain each purpose. For the detailed differences, automatic schedule, history and stop controls, continue with the separate follower-scans tutorial.

Open account-specific tracking settings

Click Tracking settings to open the Follower tracking drawer. It controls automatic tracking, daily checks, full rescans, who-you-follow scans, adding new followers to CRM and the morning digest. Settings belong to the selected Instagram account. The dedicated settings and digest tutorials explain every default and option. Here we close with Cancel after reviewing the drawer.

Identify changes when counts and names differ

If New followers, Unfollowers and Churn show an ellipsis, read Your follower list is ready to refresh. Instagram’s count differs from the names in the last list scan. Click Identify changes to read the full list. Net growth can still show the total-count difference, but it cannot identify which people followed. If Instagram keeps returning fewer names, the pending state may remain and All followers shows how many names were loaded.

Resolve incomplete or interrupted scans

If the last full scan could not see your whole list, GramFather retains estimated losses and holds back unfollower names. Open Instagram in the connected Chrome profile and choose Run full rescan. If the initial scan stopped, return to Run initial scan; previously read information is kept. Our interrupted example shows the failure message so you can identify the cause before retrying.

Resolve stale, queued or unavailable results

For a queued scan, follow the connection message, check the extension is current, automation is on, and Instagram is signed in to the right handle. For Follower refresh needs attention, read the reason and reload or use Refresh followers. If loading fails, use Try again, reload and confirm portal sign-in. For persistent failures, contact support with the account and exact message. Dashes may simply need the next daily observation.
